Steelers’ Rookie Pro Bowl Center, Maurkice Pouncey Will Not Play In Super Bowl

Maurice Pouncey, the Pittsburgh Steelers Pro Bowl, rookie center out of Florida will not be available to the team for their NFL record eighth Super Bowl appearance.

Pouncey broke his left ankle in the first quarter of the AFC Championship game against the New York Jets and did not return to that game, presumably with what was being called a ‘high ankle sprain’.

His official status is doubtful, but an ankle break does not heal in two weeks time, and Pouncey is literally all but out of the biggest game of his career. Though, that doesn’t take away from the steps he took to lead the Steelers there.

Pouncey is already climbing the boards as one of the best centers in the NFL, and his rookie season still isn’t over, after the ankle heals (pun anyone?) one can only imagine that he will come out with an intensity unrivaled by a Pittsburgh offensive lineman.

Next year, he’ll look to tear the reigns of the NFL’s best center away from Ohio State product and New York Jet, Nick Mangold.

Without Pouncey, the Steelers will turn to Doug Legursky, who replaced him against the Jets. Legursky and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger couldn’t connect on two separate snaps, one of which equated to a New York safety.

These are the kinds of mistakes that need to be dealt with prior to meeting the Green Bay Packers on February 6th.
